The blood-brain barrier is a natural protective system that shields the mind from foreign substances. The study included 162 people in Japan surviving in long-term care facilities with slight to moderate Alzheimer’s disease and high blood pressure. The individuals were split into three groups. For just one year, each group received either a brain-penetrating ACE inhibitor, a non-brain-penetrating ACE inhibitor, or a different type of blood circulation pressure medication, known as a calcium channel blocker.
